Biromums NLWC met for six weeks in autumn/winter 2016, thanks to funding via North Leitrim Women’s Centre and personal contributions. Not only did we write, we also made our own Biromums Christmas tree for the Manorhamilton Christmas Tree Festival, each biro containing a line of our poems.
In March 2017, we read some of our writing at an International Women’s Day Event: read more here.
You can read some of the writing produced by clicking on the links below (scroll to the end of this page).
Just a selection of pieces from the course which participants wanted to share publicly, these pages hold a treasure trove of expressive writing: ordinary household objects suggesting the extraordinary of unique life stories in “The Bath” and “Mirror, Mirror”, remembering, through the body, a difficult birth in “Scarred”, celebrating hands and their mothering work and the wonder of grandchildren in “Hands” and “Grandchildren”, asking if a mother can ever be enough, or what this even means, in the two-part piece, “Not Enough”.
Enjoy – and Biromums hope these pieces may inspire others to write expressively about mothering too.
